Rebol is a Functional Language (it was primarily so since inception as Carl Sassenrath, its creator, told its story, but its purity was relaxed for pragmatic reason) as well as an Object Oriented Programming Language (in so-called prototyped-base family). So is Scala and Scala is hot as it is compatible with Java Virtal Machine (as I ranted here, I wish Rebol was compatible with Java and .NET, this would be huge - unfortunately RT doesn’t give any sign that it would take this direction whereas It gave to Scala a major reason for being adopted - read the testimony here). As Rebol’s syntax is simpler my idea is to use Rebol to learn Scala, astute isn’t it
I intend to read these two books:
Programming in Scala: A Comprehensive Step-by-step Guide
Beginning Scala
Though there may be other choices suitable for beginners, I think they’re the best ones as the first is written by the creator of Scala and the second one is published by the excellent APress Editor.
I haven’t started to read any of them yet but I’m impatient to do so. I will then write some tutorials on this blog to share my learnings with you. You can start with “First Step to Scala with Rebol“.
