book_reviewSorry Guys, until now I didn’t mention any Books or Tutorials for Absolute Beginners because this is a Blog first for myself and second for you and the rest of the Galaxy :) I’m not a Total Beginner but an Intermediate Reboler and currently there’s no intermediate Books on Rebol.

So you guess it, “Rebol - A programmer’s guide” is a book for Rebol Newbies - you can see it by looking at the Table of Content. It is written by Olivier Auverlot and Peter William Alfred Wood and available as pdf on lulu.com and as paperback on Amazon. I think it is a transcription of Olivier Auverlot’s first French Book ( though I’m not sure) and you should be able to download the source code on his site.

The Book covers above all Rebol Core (part of Rebol View and Rebol Command) and a little bit Rebol View VID Framework and Rebol Command (pro version). Looking at the samples code, it target Rebol Beginners, so if you wanna learn Rebol in a more streamlined way than on Rebol Tutorial buy the Book otherwise wait for Olivier or Peter to write a Book on … RebolView and AGG - yes this is a call :). Currently there is a huge lack of Advanced Documentation and Examples on VID and I am really struggling myself with VID just to manage stuffs like a Popup Window (now it may be also due to the limit of event model and multitasking in Rebol 2, hope this will be better in Rebol 3) that’s the reasons why, as I said, I do not use VID so much. So my critics is that the Book doesn’t go beyond what Official Documentation on VID already provides. But on Rebol Core, I’m pretty sure it’s good as Olivier and Peter are well reknowed Rebol Masters, you can’t get wrong by taking their Book.
